St. Marie Shoulder Construction Notice
Richland County and the Illinois Department of Transportation have contracted with Ambraw Asphalt to construct a 4’ wide paved shoulder along the St. Marie Road from U.S. Route 50 going north to the Jasper County line. The construction of this project is made possible through Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program funds and State Matching funds. Both of these funding sources are administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The design and inspection services have been provided by Charleston Engineering of Olney, IL. Engineering costs have been paid for with Richland County Federal Aid Secondary funds. The purpose of the project is to reduce the number of run off the road accidents and provide safer travel for bicyclists and pedestrians. The improvement will be constructed under traffic. In the work zone, St. Marie Road will be restricted to one lane of traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorist who must use St. Marie Road should expect delays while traveling. Motorists who can use alternate routes are strongly encouraged to do so. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin the second week of July. The start date will be dependent on weather.
